Are you looking to write a thesis that truly makes an impact? Do you want to contribute to the future of mobility through cutting-edge technology? Then CRRC CHANGCHUN GERMANY RailTech GmbH in Aachen is the right place for you!
We are currently offering two exciting thesis projects for motivated students who are passionate about simulation technologies in the railway sector. Both opportunities allow you to work hands-on, research-oriented, and future-focused—right at the forefront of high-speed rail innovation.
1. Simulation of High-Speed Rail Vehicles Using Multi-Physics
Master Thesis
In this thesis, you will develop and validate simulation models that go far beyond classic structural mechanics. You will explore the dynamic behavior of components under various vibrational loads and analyze the interaction between the wheel-rail system and vortex-dominated aerodynamic effects. The goal: take performance and safety in high-speed rail to the next level.
Your tasks:
- Simulate dynamic response to low- and high-frequency vibration loads
- Develop and validate multi-physics simulation models
- Support ongoing projects and work on complex rail vehicle components
Your profile:
- Completed bachelor’s degree in mechanical, structural, or civil engineering
- Solid understanding of structural mechanics and aerodynamics
- Programming skills in MATLAB or Python
- Experience with Hypermesh is a plus
2. Static Strength & Dynamic Fatigue of Rail Vehicle Bogies
Bachelor or Master Thesis / Optional Student Research Project
The bogie is the core supporting structure of any train. In this thesis, you’ll examine its structural strength under real-world operating conditions and develop reliable FEM models to evaluate fatigue over the vehicle’s service life.
Your tasks:
- Perform linear and nonlinear structural calculations
- Develop and validate FEM simulation models for fatigue analysis
- Support real projects with a focus on critical rail vehicle components
Your profile:
- Good knowledge of structural mechanics and dynamics
- Programming skills in MATLAB or Python
- Experience with Hypermesh is a plus
Kickstart Your Career in Tomorrow’s Rail Technology
